CHAPTER 9: THE HEIJUNKA WAY
Challenge
During gemba visits, keep practicing seeing how mura (unlevelness) creates muri (overburden) and then muda (waste).
Or, the other way around, when looking at muda (waste), look for muri (overburden) and the mura (batching) that causes it.
Learning to think lean is practicing another way of thinking.
Find a place that is batching and creating demand, and try to level, fraction and mix and understand how you cause your own misery by batching.
Further Thinking
What is the
trade-off between performance vs costs?
What is the difference between standard work and procedures?
Real lean vs fake lean?
Two managers I relied on a lot are still fighting a two-year old pull system and creating a lot of conflict on the
teeam. Is this normal?
It seems that lean these days is all about learning and coaching. What about good ol'fashioned just-in-time stuff of
the earlier days?
How do I reduce buffers to zero?
Shouldn’t we learn better forecasting first?
Dr. Michael Ballé will assist as virtual sensei for this e-learning experience with your own team to illustrate the key concepts you'll explore in the book.
